Hi All!!
So as most of you know, I have been given the opportunity to spend 3 and a half months in Africa to complete my Community Health Nursing Rotation! Ahh its crazy that it is HERE and we have all arrived in Johannesburg!! Also, as some of you may know I have previously studied abroad in Spain and went on missions to India..both, of which I started blogs but wasn't able to finish due to limited internet. Ekk!! But I am going to try my best with this one to keep you all updated on my travels and how God is moving through me and through South Africa. I pray that his testimony and his truth will be communicated and he can use me as a mere instrument of his amazing work :) I pray that this blog will not be one of pride about my travels and experiences but instead one of humbled thankfulness that I am even given the opportunity to spend 3 and a half months here! May you see him and his works :)
Thank you to everyone who has supported me going on this trip...it means the world to me and I cannot wait to hear updates from you! I pray that you will allow God to move through you in the everyday motions of life and you will be reminded that you do not need to go abroad to do his work. He is endless and his capacity to move through everyone and everything at anytime is amazing..may we all be open to it :)
So, we have officially arrived in South Africa!! Today, we went about Johannesburg, got to see many of the townships and went to the Apartheid Museum! Being here reminds me of how much I LOVE being abroad and experiencing new cultures..I am so thankful that God has provided me with so many opportunities to learn about and interact with his people accross the globe. I am also so thankful for the friendships and bonds that are already forming among the girls on the trip..!! Tomorrow we travel to Pietermartizburg which is where we will be studying for the next 10 weeks. I'll send updates while I am there and please send me updates about you via facebook or email (khoughton07@apu.edu). Love to All!
Prayer Requests:
*That all of us students will keep open minds as we are introduced to a new culture
*Safety as we travel
*That my lost luggage will show up!!!! Out of over 100 bags, mine was the one lost..ahhh..but Iam trying to remain thankful that I am even here and focused on what I actually NEED instead of everything I want!
*That I will show more of Jesus and less of me through my words and actions
THANK YOU!!!

Kayla Bean!!! I can't believe that about your luggage....lol. But you have such a positive outlook on your purpose over there..everything will fall into place no matter what. I am so proud of you and happy for you that you are dedicating 3 months of ur life to learning more about a new culture, nursing techniques and skills that will one day better the techniques and skills of so many other nurses. Be safe and have a WONDRFUL time abroad! You know I wish i could be right by your side during all of this :) Take tons of pictures! You can count on me checking into your blog ALOT!!
